Learn how to leverage digital marketing to create a profitable online business. Discover strategies to make money online through …
- 0:00 | I made over $17,000 last month in
- 0:02 | affiliate marketing alone. And that is
- 0:05 | specifically what I want to talk about
- 0:06 | today. In this video, I’m going to
- 0:08 | explain what affiliate marketing is,
- 0:10 | exactly how I make my money with
- 0:12 | affiliate marketing, and how I can tell
- 0:15 | you how to build and grow this business
- 0:16 | if that’s something you’re interested
- 0:18 | in. Now, my name is Lori Balon. If
- 0:20 | you’ve never seen me before, I am a
- 0:22 | multiple six-figure digital marketer. I
- 0:24 | am divorced. I’m over 50 and I live
- 0:27 | alone. This is what I do full-time. But
- 0:30 | I will tell you that I built the first
- 0:32 | leg of this through software affiliate
- 0:35 | marketing to six figures while I was
- 0:37 | running a different very big business
- 0:39 | and still had young kids at home and was
- 0:42 | still married. So don’t think to
- 0:44 | yourself, oh, she only does this because
- 0:46 | she works full-time. No, that’s just
- 0:47 | allowed me to build more spaces in my
- 0:50 | business and more income streams. But
- 0:52 | anybody could do this if you follow the
- 0:55 | procedure. So what is affiliate
- 0:57 | marketing? It’s basically when you
- 0:58 | promote somebody else’s product or
- 1:00 | service that is not your own and you
- 1:03 | earn a commission when it sales sells.
- 1:05 | So this would be no inventory, no
- 1:08 | shipping. It’s not your customer, it’s
- 1:11 | their customer. You’re generating
- 1:13 | interest. You’re getting somebody to
- 1:15 | click a link most of the time in this
- 1:18 | day and age. But there are there is word
- 1:20 | of mouth affiliate marketing. There is
- 1:22 | have somebody fill out a form kind of
- 1:24 | affiliate marketing. But I’m going to
- 1:25 | tell you the different ways right now
- 1:27 | that I do it. Number one, my absolute
- 1:30 | favorite way to make money with
- 1:32 | affiliate marketing is software.
- 1:36 | And that is where I’m basically
- 1:40 | introducing a software by teaching
- 1:43 | people how to use it or by just sharing
- 1:46 | with them this is the software I use in
- 1:48 | my business. It could be a lifestyle
- 1:50 | software or something, but in my case,
- 1:52 | it’s usually a business type of
- 1:53 | software. Could be accounting. It could
- 1:55 | be an AI tool. It could be a blog
- 1:58 | writing tool. It could be a Pinterest
- 2:00 | software tool. It’s something that I am
- 2:03 | using cat gave right on Q in my
- 2:07 | business. And when somebody clicks the
- 2:09 | link and signs up for that software,
- 2:11 | then I would make a commission. The
- 2:15 | person is not charged any extra. And you
- 2:17 | always have to disclose that you are
- 2:21 | making money. So, you’ll see it on all
- 2:23 | my blogs. You’ll see it on my YouTube
- 2:25 | channel. If I if if if I have a Facebook
- 2:28 | post and somebody says, “Lori, where’d
- 2:29 | you get that shirt?” Or, “Tell me about
- 2:30 | your micro wireless microphone.” And I
- 2:32 | put it in the Facebook, you’re going to
- 2:34 | see in a parenthesis, “Affiliate
- 2:35 | commissions benefit me at no extra cost
- 2:37 | to you, unless I’m sending them to a
- 2:39 | storefront that has that disclaimer in
- 2:41 | there instead, which sometimes works as
- 2:43 | well.” Now, the nice thing about the
- 2:46 | software affiliate business is basically
- 2:49 | if you can teach, show, tell, explain a
- 2:54 | favorite software that has an affiliate
- 2:57 | program offered, not every software
- 3:00 | does, but most of them do.
- 3:03 | Then you can make money on the
- 3:06 | subscription month over month. in some
- 3:09 | cases for life. The life of that
- 3:12 | subscriber, you’re going to get a
- 3:13 | commission on every month. Nowadays,
- 3:17 | you lifetime commissions used to be a uh
- 3:20 | kind of a standard. Now, more and more
- 3:22 | people are going to 12 months, but
- 3:24 | they’re giving scalable
- 3:28 | uh commissions now to try to make up for
- 3:30 | it. So they will say something like your
- 3:33 | first uh 50 signups you get 15%
- 3:37 | commission but after you pass that
- 3:40 | number of signups then we’ll give you
- 3:42 | 20% commission and if you get to 100
- 3:44 | signups then we’ll give you 25%
- 3:46 | commission. A lot of them are doing
- 3:48 | things like that. Now how do you partner
- 3:50 | with the software? Most of the software
- 3:53 | if you go to their website and you
- 3:55 | scroll down to the bottom of the website
- 3:57 | you’re going to see something that says
- 3:58 | affiliate. Click on affiliate and it’s
- 4:01 | going to tell you about their program.
- 4:02 | Most of the software affiliate programs
- 4:05 | are managed by a third-party, an
- 4:09 | affiliate network. Some of the popular
- 4:11 | ones for software are impact
- 4:15 | uh just go to impact. It used to be
- 4:18 | called impact radius but now I think
- 4:19 | it’s just impact.com and then cj.com
- 4:24 | partnersstack.com.
- 4:26 | There is a bunch of them. So, when you
- 4:27 | click on, let’s just pretend you want to
- 4:29 | promote um uh whatever the new AI twin
- 4:34 | tool is. Everybody’s making AI twins
- 4:36 | right now. And you get all into that
- 4:37 | one. And you scroll down to the bottom,
- 4:39 | you click an affiliate, it’ll tell you
- 4:40 | like we pay X amount commission, uh earn
- 4:43 | month over month. It’ll kind of say earn
- 4:45 | for 12 months or earn for the lifetime.
- 4:48 | Click here to apply. And then when you
- 4:50 | click here to apply, it’ll either be a
- 4:51 | form or it’ll go to an affiliate
- 4:54 | network. And then you would just need to
- 4:55 | join that affiliate network. There’s
- 4:56 | usually no cost and you would fill out
- 4:59 | the application. Now, what are they
- 5:01 | looking for? They’re looking for what
- 5:03 | channels are you promoting on that they
- 5:06 | can look at and see if your brands are
- 5:08 | aligned. They want to see a YouTube
- 5:10 | channel or an Instagram channel or a Tik
- 5:12 | Tok account, which software is not as
- 5:15 | big on Tik Tok because we can’t direct
- 5:16 | link yet. Or they’re going to want to
- 5:19 | see a blog that you might be promoting
- 5:22 | on if you’re still blogging. something
- 5:24 | along those lines. That’s really cool.
- 5:27 | Now, how do you build that business,
- 5:29 | right? How do you get people to click on
- 5:30 | your links? One of the best ways is
- 5:32 | YouTube.
- 5:33 | So, if you can teach something on
- 5:36 | YouTube, I’ll give you an example. When
- 5:38 | I started on YouTube, I was teaching
- 5:41 | real estate agents how to build real
- 5:44 | estate websites on WordPress. So, they
- 5:47 | would want the website. So, I’d give
- 5:50 | them a link to the WordPress. They would
- 5:52 | want the theme that I was using and
- 5:54 | that’s kind of uh changes the look of
- 5:56 | the website. So, I would give them the
- 5:59 | link to that. They would want the
- 6:01 | plug-in software that allows them to put
- 6:04 | the real estate houses on their website.
- 6:06 | I would give them the link to that and
- 6:08 | they would click on there and they would
- 6:09 | sign up for those because they need
- 6:11 | them, not because, oh, I like Lori. Let
- 6:13 | me go click her link. It’s not like
- 6:14 | that. They’re going, oh, I want that. I
- 6:16 | want that. I want a website like she
- 6:17 | has. I want that. And so, if you keep
- 6:19 | telling them, I put the link in the
- 6:21 | description. below. There’s a link in
- 6:22 | the description below. You can build
- 6:23 | this by clicking the link below. Or you
- 6:27 | could come up with a little one sheet or
- 6:28 | a guide and say, “I’ve got uh if you
- 6:30 | want to know how to build this, I’ve got
- 6:31 | all the steps written out for you in a
- 6:33 | PDF. Just let me know.” And then you can
- 6:35 | put your links in the PDF and that also
- 6:37 | could convert software. So, most of my
- 6:41 | software uh conversions do come from
- 6:44 | YouTube. I am testing some things with
- 6:46 | Pinterest right now, but it’s harder.
- 6:50 | It’s easier to get people to click on a
- 6:54 | link in your video when they’re seeing
- 6:57 | you, hearing you, they’re interested in
- 6:59 | you, and they want to buy what you have.
- 7:03 | They want what you’re doing. That’s
- 7:04 | easier. It’s not easy to get people to
- 7:06 | click an affiliate link. It just isn’t.
- 7:09 | But I just don’t even I I’m not attached
- 7:11 | to it. I just let it
- 7:14 | I naturally will talk about what I talk
- 7:16 | about and then I’ll say, you know, if
- 7:18 | you want to get this microphone, it’s
- 7:19 | listed below. Or if I mention a
- 7:20 | particular type of software in the
- 7:22 | video, I’ll mention it below. Sometimes
- 7:23 | I’ll do a whole video around one
- 7:25 | specific tool because it’s a tool I use.
- 7:27 | I love it. Let me show everybody how to
- 7:29 | turn their long form videos into short
- 7:30 | form videos with such and such tool. And
- 7:33 | that will generate way more sales uh
- 7:36 | signups than just a general video. If
- 7:38 | you can teach them a strategy, show them
- 7:40 | how to do something, they’re more likely
- 7:42 | to click that. Okay, so that is a that
- 7:46 | is one form of affiliate marketing. You
- 7:47 | know, another form of affiliate
- 7:49 | marketing, real estate referrals. Like,
- 7:52 | and I say that only because a lot of my
- 7:55 | followers from the past were real estate
- 7:57 | agents and they don’t think about that.
- 7:58 | Affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing
- 8:00 | is anything you can refer somebody to
- 8:02 | and get a commission. That’s all real
- 8:04 | estate referrals are. We get 25%. If I
- 8:06 | send you a lead in California and that
- 8:09 | person buys or sells a house, when it
- 8:11 | closes, I get 25% of the commission.
- 8:13 | It’s a referral agreement. It’s an
- 8:14 | affiliate agreement. Same thing. Same
- 8:17 | thing. So, bottom line, if you’re good
- 8:19 | at building an audience or interest,
- 8:22 | this is something that could be for you.
- 8:24 | Most of the people that I see do really
- 8:27 | well in software are people that are
- 8:30 | pretty natural at getting on camera or
- 8:33 | they can create faceless videos with AI
- 8:35 | if you want to do it that way or they
- 8:38 | can do really good short form content
- 8:40 | and point people immediately to a link.
- 8:42 | Here’s the tool I use. Here’s the tool I
- 8:44 | use. You know, I I made $20,000 last
- 8:47 | month selling ebooks and I did it all
- 8:48 | through this. I sell them all right here
- 8:50 | at this store. People would go click.
- 8:53 | They’re hearing $20,000 in ebooks. I
- 8:56 | want that. I didn’t, by the way. I’m I’m
- 8:58 | just new to ebooks. So, a couple
- 8:59 | thousand. But whatever it is, let’s just
- 9:01 | say I’m I’m I’m
- 9:03 | forecasting the future. I’m going to
- 9:05 | make 20K in a month on ebooks. Or I
- 9:07 | really do make I could say I’m I’m a 30K
- 9:09 | content creator and I do it all through
- 9:11 | Stan. Link is below. That’s my Stan
- 9:13 | store is where I sell my books. I sell
- 9:16 | my coaching. There’s a built-in it links
- 9:18 | your coaching calls to your Zoom calls,
- 9:20 | yada yada. So, a lot of people would be
- 9:22 | interested in that. So, if you show show
- 9:23 | up and tell them how you do that, but
- 9:26 | you use this tool, they’re you’re you’re
- 9:29 | going to that’s going to get some
- 9:30 | affiliate signups. Okay. What doesn’t
- 9:33 | what I can’t stand is when somebody
- 9:35 | emails me. It makes me nauseous. I get
- 9:39 | all these emails and all these Facebook
- 9:41 | messages and everybody targets me
- 9:42 | because they know I am an affiliate. So,
- 9:44 | they think I will respond to their
- 9:45 | affiliate offer, but I can actually just
- 9:47 | see right through it. So, it’s the
- 9:49 | opposite. I’m the worst candidate to do
- 9:50 | that with because I can spot it in the
- 9:52 | first two words.
- 9:54 | Anyway, when you email somebody and go,
- 9:56 | “Oh, I just know you would be.” And then
- 9:58 | there’s all these emojis and check marks
- 10:00 | and you can see it’s blanketed and sent
- 10:03 | to everybody. Nobody wants that. That
- 10:05 | that’s not the way I would approach
- 10:07 | this. Um, not with not with software
- 10:10 | signups. Software signups are best when
- 10:13 | you can get somebody to they want they
- 10:16 | already want a format or a tool. Okay.
- 10:20 | Um and and maybe that’s working for
- 10:22 | somebody out there. It doesn’t work on
- 10:23 | me, that’s for sure. So, another way I’m
- 10:26 | doing affiliate marketing is Amazon
- 10:28 | product reviews. So, basically, if I buy
- 10:30 | something from Amazon and um oh,
- 10:34 | actually, you don’t even have to buy it
- 10:35 | on Amazon. It just has to be sold on
- 10:38 | Amazon. The exact same product. So, this
- 10:40 | DJI mic, I keep calling it DJI, DJI mic.
- 10:45 | It’s a wireless microphone. There’s two
- 10:48 | microphones, so I could interview
- 10:49 | somebody. The other side just pops into
- 10:51 | the end of my phone. There’s no apps. It
- 10:53 | auto records as soon as I put the mic
- 10:55 | on. Great sound quality. We’re good to
- 10:57 | go. The only time my sound quality is
- 10:59 | ever off is if I have a jacket on or
- 11:02 | something that’s rubbing up against the
- 11:03 | microphone. My hair usually is fine. I
- 11:06 | try to hide it under there because it’s
- 11:08 | it’s obvious. Anyway, let’s just say I
- 11:10 | did that on on Amazon. I would do a
- 11:12 | little 30- secondond video, usually
- 11:14 | vertical. Here’s the camera. Here’s how
- 11:16 | it sounds without the mic. Here’s how it
- 11:18 | sounds with the mic. And when people
- 11:20 | click on that vid, watch that video, and
- 11:23 | then they buy that item, I get a
- 11:26 | commission. There’s several ways. One of
- 11:29 | the ways is with Amazon’s influencer
- 11:31 | program and that is where you’re able to
- 11:34 | upload your videos and your videos
- 11:37 | actually run sometimes on the product
- 11:40 | page. So somebody goes to Amazon and
- 11:42 | they type in best wireless microphone,
- 11:44 | let’s just say, or whatever, and the DJI
- 11:46 | mic happens to pop up there and they go
- 11:49 | in, they watch videos, the very last
- 11:51 | video they watch before they buy gets a
- 11:54 | commission. Not the ones on the bottom
- 11:56 | that are like reviews uh from it’ll say
- 11:58 | reviews from customers. There’s a
- 12:00 | different set. There’s like five.
- 12:02 | There’s the brand videos and under that
- 12:04 | there’s the influencer videos. Then
- 12:06 | under that there’s whatever the little
- 12:07 | feedback ones, which is another
- 12:09 | different program that I I’m not
- 12:10 | involved in. But anyway, I think that’s
- 12:12 | just where you get free products, but
- 12:14 | I’m not 100% sure. Now, these products
- 12:16 | are not generally provided to me for
- 12:18 | free. I’m usually just buying them and
- 12:20 | reviewing them. or if I got them for
- 12:22 | free, maybe from another platform I’ll
- 12:24 | review on. But the catch is if you get
- 12:26 | items for free, they have to be
- 12:28 | disclosed always. No matter how many
- 12:30 | times you make the video, I forget which
- 12:32 | ones are free and which ones aren’t
- 12:33 | free. So, it gets very confusing. But I
- 12:36 | do like to take if I’m getting samples
- 12:38 | from Tik Tok, like all my Laura Geller
- 12:40 | makeup, and then I go put it on Amazon,
- 12:43 | there’s only a very short amount for a
- 12:44 | title, so you’d have to put it like in a
- 12:46 | parenthesis gifted or something along
- 12:49 | those lines. I I wish Amazon would give
- 12:51 | us a little check mark so we could check
- 12:52 | it off and they could add the disclosure
- 12:53 | for us, but they haven’t yet. But that’s
- 12:55 | just Federal Trade Commission
- 12:57 | regulations. Anyway, so another way with
- 13:01 | Amazon is if you’re part of the Amazon
- 13:03 | Associates program, which is back in the
- 13:06 | day, we only had the associates program
- 13:08 | and it was primarily for bloggers. Then
- 13:10 | the influencer program came out. And the
- 13:12 | biggest difference is Amazon Associates,
- 13:14 | you usually submit a website and they
- 13:18 | give you links that you can share. Like
- 13:21 | I could go write a blog that says the 10
- 13:23 | best wireless microphones and I would
- 13:26 | get a link for each of the 10
- 13:27 | microphones and if somebody goes clicks
- 13:28 | on that and buys it, that’s more Amazon
- 13:30 | associates. Or you can just throw off
- 13:33 | throw out your links every now and then
- 13:34 | if somebody says, “Hey, Lori, where did
- 13:36 | you get that cat tree?” And I tell
- 13:37 | people where I get the cat tree. It’s
- 13:39 | really not designed as for friends and
- 13:41 | family. So, it’s really catchy. I’ve had
- 13:43 | people that have lost their accounts
- 13:44 | because they shared links on Facebook
- 13:46 | and a bunch of their friends went and
- 13:47 | bought the item off Amazon and Amazon
- 13:49 | said, “Hey, that’s not the purpose. You
- 13:50 | need to be an influencer if you’re going
- 13:51 | to do that.” So, before we only had one
- 13:54 | program. Now, we have a second program.
- 13:55 | So, Amazon influencer, you apply with a
- 13:57 | social channel. That would be a Tik Tok
- 13:59 | account, an Instagram business page, a
- 14:01 | Facebook business page, or a YouTube
- 14:05 | account. And they they you know
- 14:07 | influencer is a term they use very
- 14:09 | loosely. Basically they want to see what
- 14:11 | you’re posting and do you have any
- 14:13 | engagement. You know you can’t really
- 14:15 | apply with your Facebook page that has
- 14:17 | 10,000 uh followers on your real estate
- 14:21 | page and you’re promoting a bunch of
- 14:22 | real estate listings that nobody cares.
- 14:24 | Nobody’s commenting because it’s not
- 14:25 | really that’s not really what is not
- 14:27 | designed for engagement. That’s that
- 14:29 | that’s not going to get you approved.
- 14:30 | You could have 200 followers potentially
- 14:32 | on Tik Tok with a bunch of comments on
- 14:34 | your videos and they might approve you.
- 14:37 | So that you know I Amazon influencer is
- 14:40 | is going to be anywhere good. You know
- 14:42 | you could make a thousand, you can make
- 14:43 | a few thousand. You’re not going to
- 14:45 | probably get rich off of it. It’s 1 to
- 14:46 | 4% commission unless the you’re part of
- 14:49 | the creator connections program which
- 14:51 | throws a 10% bonus on there for a
- 14:53 | temporary amount of time. But it’s it’s
- 14:55 | small but it’s steady. I wake up every
- 14:57 | day to Amazon commissions every single
- 14:59 | day. If I’m buying the item anyway, why
- 15:01 | not review it? Literally, I have made
- 15:03 | commissions on my Blue Diamond almonds.
- 15:07 | A bag of almonds. I show people the
- 15:09 | almonds. I bought these on Amazon. I
- 15:11 | swear, I don’t know why they would watch
- 15:13 | a video about almonds, but they do. Cat
- 15:15 | food. I’ll open a can of cat food. My
- 15:17 | cat loves this Frisky’s cat food or
- 15:19 | whatever the the um whatever the cat
- 15:22 | food is that he likes, the tiki cat, and
- 15:24 | people will buy it. Cat treats or
- 15:26 | whatever. is basically anything you have
- 15:29 | that is for sale on Amazon. That lamp
- 15:32 | behind me, I bought it I think at Lamps
- 15:34 | Plus, but it’s for sale on Amazon
- 15:36 | because it’s the same brand, it’s the
- 15:37 | same lamp, I could promote it. That’s
- 15:39 | that’s a nice thing. Another way I made
- 15:42 | that $17,000 in affiliate commission was
- 15:45 | Tik Tok Shop. So, Tik Tok Shop has its
- 15:48 | own affiliate program. They run all of
- 15:52 | the stores. They manage all the little
- 15:53 | all the you have big brand sellers in
- 15:55 | there, too. when you have a whole lot of
- 15:57 | off-brand sellers in there. And
- 16:00 | personally, I I love Tik Tok for the big
- 16:04 | wins and it’s steady every day like
- 16:07 | Amazon for me. It’s money every day. You
- 16:10 | know, I know I’m going to make a
- 16:11 | thousand plus a month on it. I’ve had
- 16:14 | $5,000 days back toback on Tik Tok, but
- 16:17 | over time things are changing with Tik
- 16:19 | Tok. The game is changing. It’s not as
- 16:22 | easy as it first was. They really want
- 16:24 | you to stay in a particular niche. You
- 16:26 | got to work with brands that are putting
- 16:28 | money behind your videos where in the
- 16:29 | beginning it was all organic reach. So
- 16:31 | you got to you got to play the game a
- 16:33 | little bit. I don’t love playing the
- 16:34 | game a whole lot. So I just kind of dab
- 16:37 | right now I’m just dabbling in it.
- 16:39 | Fourth quarter holiday season, I expect
- 16:41 | I’ll amp it up quite a bit. Um I got put
- 16:44 | in the beauty niche which was not my
- 16:46 | target at 54 years old. Uh, but it if
- 16:50 | when I post about beauty products, they
- 16:52 | work, they do well. And um, so I I I did
- 16:55 | a bathing suit once and I made 20 grand
- 16:57 | on a bathing suit and I figured I’ve got
- 16:59 | a pool. I’m out in a bathing suit every
- 17:01 | day anyway. Why not make the video? And
- 17:03 | that’s I made uh I had a video go viral
- 17:07 | for a jewelry mirror that had like two
- 17:09 | million views on it. I made thousands
- 17:10 | and thousands of dollars on that. So,
- 17:13 | we’ll see where that goes. But that’s
- 17:15 | steady for me. It’s steady income every
- 17:16 | month. I know it’s going to be there. I
- 17:18 | just kind of make it part of my daily
- 17:20 | flow. I don’t purposely say, “Let me go
- 17:23 | time block two hours to go make Tik Tok
- 17:25 | videos.” Right now, I’m only working
- 17:26 | about four hours per day. Um the
- 17:29 | exceptions are on my big coaching days
- 17:31 | because I have a coaching group like
- 17:33 | today was. Then I usually will work a
- 17:34 | little bit longer on those days, but
- 17:36 | most days it’s about four hours. and I
- 17:40 | just make my Tik Tok videos as I use
- 17:42 | products that are sold on Tik Tok or
- 17:44 | I’ll pop into my beauty room where my
- 17:47 | stuff is and I’ll grab an eyehadow
- 17:48 | palette and I’ll just make a quick
- 17:49 | video. Here’s an eye today. I liked my
- 17:51 | hair this morning. I used a shampoo that
- 17:54 | Tik Tok sent me. It’s a nice salon brand
- 17:57 | and I said today’s the day I should go
- 17:59 | tell people about this shampoo. And so I
- 18:01 | remembered, okay, on days I do my hair,
- 18:03 | I should go do a curling iron. I should
- 18:04 | go do a uh some sort of hair product. If
- 18:08 | I have makeup on that day, I should go
- 18:10 | today. They sent me a MAC lipstick. So,
- 18:12 | I did the lipstick. Um that’s just kind
- 18:14 | of if I’m cooking dinner in my kitchen
- 18:16 | and the pans I’m using are for sale on
- 18:18 | TikTok. I’ll put that I’ll go make a
- 18:20 | quick video and throw it on there. Just
- 18:22 | natural part of my daily flow. A top, a
- 18:26 | sweater, a pair of shoes, a pair of
- 18:28 | jeans, jewelry. Oh, let me go put on
- 18:31 | that necklace that I got and and tell
- 18:32 | people about it really quick. Where
- 18:34 | other people are that are doing five
- 18:38 | figure months on average, I would say
- 18:41 | mine are definitely four figure months
- 18:42 | on average, although I do have five
- 18:44 | figure months sometimes. The five figure
- 18:46 | plus, they’re doing 10 to 15 videos a
- 18:49 | day, a lot of them. And a lot of them go
- 18:51 | nowhere. It’s a it’s just a kind of a
- 18:53 | gamble like, okay, let me try these. I
- 18:54 | mean, they know what brands to work
- 18:56 | with. that they know what how to pick a
- 18:58 | a product that’s probably going to sell
- 18:59 | pretty well and then they’ll make 10
- 19:01 | videos on that same product and some of
- 19:03 | them don’t go anywhere and some of them
- 19:04 | do. Same with me. I’ll make videos on a
- 19:07 | product that don’t go anywhere and all
- 19:08 | of a sudden two months later it pops off
- 19:09 | and I’m making a bunch of money on the
- 19:11 | one video but not on the other ones. You
- 19:12 | know, it’s just that’s just kind of the
- 19:14 | I enjoy it. I enjoy the variety, the
- 19:19 | change. I enjoy the gamble of it. like
- 19:21 | it’s not really a money risk, but it’s a
- 19:24 | we don’t know if it’s going to go
- 19:25 | anywhere and it’s kind of fun. It’s it’s
- 19:27 | just I like the thrill of it, right? I
- 19:29 | guess that’s what I’ll just say. It’s
- 19:30 | like a lottery. You just don’t know
- 19:32 | what’s going to happen. But I do know
- 19:33 | that no matter what I’m going to have
- 19:34 | four figure months and sometimes a five
- 19:36 | figure month, you know, that’s that’s
- 19:38 | way I look at there’s there’s there’s
- 19:39 | people doing six figure months on Tik
- 19:41 | Tok shop. So, it’s it’s you’re not going
- 19:43 | to pop off and go viral on Amazon like
- 19:45 | that. You’re going to do well. You could
- 19:47 | do well, but you’re not going to it’s
- 19:48 | not the same thing. Plus, Tik Tok pays
- 19:50 | 15% commissions. And the only time it
- 19:53 | usually drops down to 5%, which is still
- 19:55 | higher than Amazon, is when the brand
- 19:58 | runs ads behind your videos. Sometimes
- 20:01 | they’ll drop it to 5, 8, 10, but they’re
- 20:04 | putting all the money behind it, you
- 20:05 | know? So, you they’re sending you
- 20:07 | they’re not they’re not sending out free
- 20:09 | products as much as they were, but maybe
- 20:10 | you’re getting for free or maybe you’re
- 20:11 | buying it. My theory is this. I only buy
- 20:14 | things that I want or that I’m willing
- 20:17 | to take a risk on because I really think
- 20:18 | it’s going to be like a a glowing
- 20:20 | talking head pumpkin for Halloween or
- 20:22 | something. I did just go by, which will
- 20:25 | take me to the next segment. The next
- 20:26 | segment of where I make affiliate money
- 20:28 | is YouTube shopping. That’s a different
- 20:32 | channel, YouTube Shopping. And what
- 20:34 | YouTube Shopping does is it they have
- 20:36 | their own affiliate program, too. but
- 20:37 | they link to places like Pottery Barn
- 20:39 | and William Sonoma and Nike and
- 20:42 | Nordstrom and all Walmart and all the
- 20:44 | different brands. So, I did just buy
- 20:47 | like $1,500 worth of Halloween pillows
- 20:50 | from Pottery Barn. I don’t think I’d do
- 20:54 | it again.
- 20:56 | um trying to see if I could get these
- 20:59 | pro promote these Halloween uh pillows
- 21:02 | on YouTube and link it to YouTube
- 21:04 | shopping and earn commissions.
- 21:07 | But now the pro the reason one of the
- 21:09 | reason why I said I wouldn’t do it again
- 21:10 | is because they’re huge. I have like 20
- 21:12 | Halloween pillows now back in one of my
- 21:15 | rooms that I really wish weren’t in the
- 21:16 | house and they’ve been here for 4 weeks
- 21:18 | cuz I started a month ago and I’m not
- 21:21 | making enough videos to really keep
- 21:23 | those selling. So, I probably wouldn’t
- 21:25 | do it again. Again, it for me, I’m This
- 21:28 | is This is really creator preferences.
- 21:31 | If you’re a creator that you know, you
- 21:34 | just want to make full-time living off
- 21:35 | of YouTube shopping, you’ll show up
- 21:36 | every day and make YouTube shopping
- 21:38 | videos. You’ll do well, or twice a week,
- 21:40 | you could do 20-minut shopping hauls.
- 21:42 | Here’s all the Halloween pillows I
- 21:43 | bought from Pottery Barn. If you look at
- 21:45 | Well, if you know me and you know my
- 21:47 | other channel, I’m wearing a witch’s
- 21:48 | outfit in a full costume and I’m
- 21:50 | unboxing these pillows. Well, I need to
- 21:52 | do it again. I did it once six weeks
- 21:54 | ago. Like I need to do it again, but I’m
- 21:57 | finding my creator energy doesn’t want
- 22:00 | to go there. I would rather be sitting
- 22:03 | down in the afternoon with a nice cup of
- 22:06 | tea and revisiting my Pinterest blog or
- 22:10 | pushing out a Instagram carousel for my
- 22:13 | ebooks or something else. It’s it’s that
- 22:15 | type of affiliate marketing with
- 22:16 | products. I’d rather that just be kind
- 22:19 | of like a little side hustle that’s just
- 22:20 | natural part of my daily flow for
- 22:22 | products I’m already using. That’s just
- 22:24 | kind of the direction where I think I’m
- 22:26 | taking that place. Another place I make
- 22:28 | I earn affiliate marketing within that
- 22:30 | $17,000 is with blogging. And I will
- 22:33 | tell you that uh blogging blogging
- 22:37 | dollars aren’t as high as some of the
- 22:38 | other dollars, but again, it’s income
- 22:40 | that comes in all the time. So, if I go
- 22:42 | write a blog on the best 10 best shoe
- 22:45 | storage
- 22:47 | organizers and I it could rank with Chat
- 22:52 | GPT, it could rank with Google, it could
- 22:54 | rank with Bing, but I typically nowadays
- 22:56 | I’m making Pinterest pins and I have a
- 22:59 | lifestyle blog, a home and garden blog
- 23:01 | mostly and I make Pinterest pins and
- 23:04 | people click on the pins and they go
- 23:05 | over to the blog and they read the blog
- 23:07 | and then they buy things. So, another
- 23:09 | example is I have a blog all about how
- 23:11 | to hold a lady’s craft night. Craft
- 23:13 | night. Ladies crafts night. That was
- 23:16 | hard to say. And I’ve got something like
- 23:18 | uh wine and paint glasses. And I’m
- 23:21 | showing them how to paint the glasses.
- 23:22 | And underneath the paint glasses, I have
- 23:24 | a paint kit and the paint brushes and
- 23:26 | even the disposable wine glasses that
- 23:29 | they’ll buy. So, if I have a blog that
- 23:30 | starts to pop off, then I will go in and
- 23:33 | look, okay, how could I monetize this in
- 23:35 | other ways? So, I’m also monetizing it
- 23:37 | with ad revenue, but I’m looking down
- 23:39 | there going, “Hey, is there a spot for
- 23:40 | an affiliate link? This might be a good
- 23:42 | opportunity for affiliate link. Let me
- 23:43 | drop that in there and see if if see how
- 23:46 | that works.” Uh, one of the tools that I
- 23:48 | use for that, I am going to put the tool
- 23:49 | below, lasso. It is a WordPress plugin
- 23:54 | that integrates with Amazon, and it’s
- 23:55 | really cool. So, I can go in to I’m
- 23:59 | working on my WordPress blog. I’ll click
- 24:01 | the little plus sign to add a block and
- 24:04 | I’ll cl I’ll choose a lasso widget and
- 24:07 | it’ll say add a link. So I’ll put a link
- 24:09 | to let’s just say this microphone. Then
- 24:11 | I have options. I can actually put the
- 24:13 | whole image in as a block. I could put a
- 24:16 | little call to action. I could put a
- 24:18 | button. I could put a call to im uh a
- 24:20 | call to action that has kind of the
- 24:22 | image and it has a title and it has
- 24:24 | reviews and it has a little thing. I
- 24:26 | could do carousels. I could do lists. I
- 24:29 | could do comparisons. I could do tables.
- 24:31 | So if you’re a big blogger who’s
- 24:33 | interested in affiliate marketing and I
- 24:35 | can put in thirdparty affiliate links
- 24:37 | too, but then it doesn’t pull in the
- 24:39 | data like it does with Amazon. It has
- 24:41 | the API so it’s pulling in the data
- 24:44 | which means it’ll change the price
- 24:45 | automatically for me so I don’t get in
- 24:47 | trouble with Amazon. So that’s I’ll put
- 24:48 | that down there. That’s a that’s a cool
- 24:50 | tool if you’re interested in blogging
- 24:52 | and making uh affiliate income. Another
- 24:55 | way I make affiliate income is LTK, like
- 24:58 | to know it, formerly known as Reward
- 25:00 | Style. It’s like a beauty, fashion, home
- 25:01 | and garden app. Mostly fashion, mostly
- 25:05 | beauty. Uh, definitely lends more
- 25:08 | towards the younger influencer side.
- 25:10 | There aren’t as many of us in my age
- 25:11 | group on there. Um, and that’s fine cuz
- 25:13 | that’s not really what I want to be, but
- 25:15 | but I make some money there. And the
- 25:18 | other nice thing about LTK, so right now
- 25:20 | if I want to go on LTK and show people,
- 25:23 | well maybe I want to show them the top
- 25:24 | or the lipstick or whatever, I’ll take a
- 25:25 | picture of myself or maybe make it a
- 25:27 | video and then they have a large library
- 25:30 | of affiliate brands and links. So you
- 25:32 | don’t have to go partner with a brand
- 25:34 | separately. You do it all right there
- 25:36 | through their app. There’s a little
- 25:37 | Chrome extension. So, Pottery Barn,
- 25:40 | William Sonoma, um, uh, a lot of the
- 25:43 | women’s fashion, Made Well, and
- 25:45 | Nordstrom and and Men’s Fashion, too,
- 25:48 | and Home Depot and Lowe’s and all kinds
- 25:51 | furniture stores. All the regular name,
- 25:53 | a lot of the regular name brands that we
- 25:55 | would use, you can find on there. You
- 25:57 | can also use those links on Pinterest.
- 25:59 | You can use those links on your blog,
- 26:01 | but you do need to apply and you do have
- 26:04 | to be some sort of an influencer. But
- 26:06 | again, I use that term loosely. these
- 26:08 | people are not holding you. You got to
- 26:09 | have thousands and thousands of
- 26:10 | followers to get in a lot of times. But
- 26:14 | in in any of these cases with affiliate
- 26:16 | marketing, all these things that I just
- 26:18 | mentioned, they still do require you to
- 26:20 | have the ability to generate interest.
- 26:22 | You’re not just going to go make a bunch
- 26:24 | of affiliate income just putting links
- 26:26 | out there. Why do people care? You got
- 26:29 | to build something. A blog, a Pinterest
- 26:32 | account, a YouTube channel, an Instagram
- 26:34 | account. You have to be somewhere. And
- 26:37 | you have to be somewhere where you can
- 26:38 | include links. Now, Instagram just
- 26:40 | rolled out the ability to do reels and
- 26:42 | put Amazon links in your reels. That’s
- 26:44 | pretty incredible. I’ve dabbled. I
- 26:46 | haven’t done a lot with it cuz I’m
- 26:47 | working on another project. I was so
- 26:49 | excited when it rolled out, then I just
- 26:50 | kind of dropped it because I don’t
- 26:51 | really want to be a beauty fashion
- 26:53 | influencer. I’m more in the tech space,
- 26:55 | the digital marketing, the software. I
- 26:56 | really love that space for a million
- 26:59 | reasons. One, it’s just a lot more
- 27:01 | money. And it’s I love to teach digital
- 27:04 | marketing. So, it’s it it’s so good for
- 27:06 | me. I don’t love to be on camera every
- 27:08 | day putting on makeup looks at all. I
- 27:11 | don’t like that at all. I’m very
- 27:12 | naturalbased. I don’t like to do a lot
- 27:14 | of that. And same with fashion. I bought
- 27:16 | this top like four years ago at a
- 27:18 | farmers market.
- 27:20 | So, I’m not I can’t even promote it. I
- 27:23 | don’t even know it has a brand attached
- 27:24 | to it. So, I’m not like going out and
- 27:25 | buying all these new trending things
- 27:27 | that people are. And so, when I do that,
- 27:30 | I usually lose money. I did it once. I
- 27:32 | did a Nordstrom shopping haul and I went
- 27:34 | and reviewed all the products. It didn’t
- 27:36 | do so well and I did buckle. I sold a
- 27:39 | few things, but you have to be willing
- 27:40 | to do that every week. You can’t just
- 27:42 | pop off oneoff videos and expect them to
- 27:44 | show up. I would have to show up every
- 27:46 | single week at least once a week and do
- 27:48 | a 20 minute long form shopping haul. And
- 27:51 | for some reason, I just don’t want to do
- 27:52 | it. But I did interview some women that
- 27:55 | are doing it in my age group over 50
- 27:57 | that are making 250 3K a year, some
- 28:00 | more. Seems like the average kind of
- 28:03 | kept falling into that 250 3K, which a
- 28:05 | lot of us creators fall into that space
- 28:07 | that make money. There’s a lot of us
- 28:09 | doing 200 to 300K a year in these
- 28:13 | spaces. So now I also monetize all of my
- 28:16 | marketing with ebooks, which you’ll see
- 28:18 | right there. I teach people how to do
- 28:20 | ebooks. Uh, I mean, I teach people how
- 28:22 | to do all the marketing that I do. I
- 28:23 | also do have a coaching program,
- 28:25 | Blueprint Coaching, but those are not
- 28:26 | included in the 17,000. That’s just
- 28:29 | affiliate marketing. I’m promoting
- 28:31 | somebody else’s product or service and
- 28:32 | I’m earning a commission. And then I
- 28:34 | also have a little uh my my two brothers
- 28:37 | own a WordPress company and I send them
- 28:40 | business and I get 10%. So, that’s my
- 28:42 | other affiliate side of it. There’s a
- 28:44 | pretty nice little healthy split amongst
- 28:46 | them all. So, if I want to go crank it
- 28:48 | up a little bit, if I want to go turn it
- 28:50 | up, I know where to go. Like, let me go
- 28:51 | push some stuff to my brothers. Let me
- 28:53 | go push some stuff. Let me go do some
- 28:54 | more Tik Tok videos. Let me do an actual
- 28:56 | shopping haul on YouTube this week. Or,
- 28:58 | let me do another software. I like
- 28:59 | having all the levers that I can pull.
- 29:02 | Anyway, if you like this style of
- 29:04 | teaching, I’m Lori Balon,
- 29:05 | balonbloopprint.com. Love to have you.
- 29:07 | pick up an ebook and I’ll talk to you
- 29:09 | soon.
